Flowers - fragrance, symbolism & color play a big role
Find out why fragrant lilies are a no-go in the hospital room, how the symbolism of a flower can have
an effect and which colors have a particularly positive aura.
Discreetly scented flowers YES, intensely scented a no-go
Intensely fragrant flowers such as lilacs, lilies or hyacinths can be wonderful. But in hospitals they are not recommended, because they not infrequently cause headaches or dizziness in patients. Flowers that have a delicate fragrance or no fragrance at all are therefore more appropriate. There is a
sufficiently large selection of appropriate bouquets at any time of the year.
Flower or color symbolism - may prove important
Many perceive the chrysanthemum, lily, or calla as a cemetery flower. Others associate the color white with death. So, for seriously ill or very elderly people, such flowers or the color white are not the ideal gift when wishing them «Get well soon». Incidentally, this also applies to very dark flower colors
such as dark violet or purple. These have little encouraging effect on many.
Yellow sunbeams or orange pick-me-ups
Especially yellow and orange are considered colors that work wonders at the bedside. Thus, yellow flowers stand for optimism and joie de vivre. They also stimulate the ability to think. Orange flowers are even the «color for sick people» par excellence. This is because orange is said to be health-promoting, uplifting, performance-enhancing and good against pessimistic mood. Finally, this color is said to stimulate appetite,
which may help those who don't really like the taste of hospital food.
Red - pure energy of life
Last but not least, red also stands for joie de vivre and energy. That is why red flowers are the ideal pick-me-up. It is said that red activates the organs. And who gives red flowers according to this, must at most be careful that the sick person does not rise prematurely from his bed. In the case of red roses, the most that can be said is that
they stand for love. This should be considered before deciding on such a gift.
Roses - rather suboptimal in the hospital
Roses for your sweetheart - that goes down well. However, during a hospital stay, this is not necessarily a good idea. Because roses are delicate. If they should hold well, they should be cut daily and placed in fresh water up to at least half (preferably two-thirds) of the stem. These conditions are not met in most hospitals. Our tip: an uncomplicated
seasonal bouquet for the hospital stays ... and then the roses at home.
The right container
Of course, hospitals also have vases. But not always there is the right one for the bouquet. Here are our alternatives: have
Fleurop or the florist deliver a matching vase. That way you are on the safe side.
