… and in winter when it snows?
From November to January there are hardly any Swiss flowers because it is too cold.
Nevertheless, you don't have to go too far afield for stylish decorations.
Some Christmas plants are Swiss made
If the festive poinsettias or beautiful Christmas roses are also among your favorites, you are in luck. Because these are very likely to come from Switzerland. From summer on, they are produced by Swiss nurseries to ensure that from November/December onward, we all have a Christmas feeling at home. Note: Poinsettias, which are available in many colors, like it bright and warm, while Christmas roses belong outdoors. There they survive even frosts and bloom throughout the winter. In the case of the proud amaryllis, the bulbs, which originate in South America, reach Europe,
where they are driven in large-scale nurseries.
What about conifers, mistletoe, and holly?
Since the word conifers stands for Pinales, which include fir, pine and yew, their origin is not certain. There are of course from Swiss production, but often they come from other European countries. Only our decorated little Christmas tree is guaranteed to be produced in Switzerland. Mistletoe offered in Switzerland, on the other hand, usually comes from France, and holly often from Italy or France. Nevertheless, it is impossible to imagine Advent and Christmas without conifers (and conifer branches).
And the kiss under the mistletoe or decorative holly, too, many of us do not want to miss.
With a lot of Christmas magic
But whether poinsettia, Christmas rose, or conifers processed into Advent wreaths: many of our products get a little extra glamour. Our florists wave their magic wand, and: Abracadabra - Christmas spirit is
already here! This can be in the form of fairy lights, but also Christmas baubles, cones, stars and much more. Look around from November in our assortment. You will be thrilled.
Azaleas and cyclamen - also from Swiss production
If it does not have to be typically Christmas, there are azaleas and cyclamen in winter - also from Swiss production. Azaleas are very popular because of their colorful flowers. They are easy to care for and wear their flower dress for six to eight weeks. Cyclamen, on the other hand, is still one of the most popular houseplants. It looks good in any
color, and it brings joy and mood to a cold season.
Why don't we guarantee «Swiss made» in winter?
For us to guarantee that products have been produced in Switzerland, it is not enough that there are nurseries offering them. The offer must also be sufficient for the whole of Switzerland. In addition, it should be accessible to all Fleurop partners. We have succeeded with flowers. But with plants, it's difficult. For example, how is a Christmas rose produced in eastern Switzerland or a poinsettia produced in central Switzerland supposed to get to the florist in St. Moritz, Lausanne, or Lugano? It is cold outside, and many things that delight our eyes in winter are delicate and difficult to
transport. Therefore, we cannot give any guarantee here.
More guaranteed «Swissness»? Soon it will go on with tulips …
As is known, after winter comes spring. And therefore, from February you can already look forward to beautiful tulips. In early summer we will continue with peonies, in summer with sunflowers, and in autumn we will surprise you with the most beautiful autumn flowers. Of course, always from Swiss production. This is not only a concern for us, but also for the many Swiss nurseries and for you, our customers.
Let's work together for more seasonality, regionality and sustainability.
